But What Does It Do?

So … these readings …

Yes …?

How do they work?

Both these methods are an intuitive lens which can focus inquiry, and gain insight that empowers you.

But what can you do specifically with tarot and astrology?

Stimulate thought, elevate feeling, refine choices …

Sounds okay. But can you give me answers?

Sure. Like what is one plus one?

No, like who should I vote for?

Well, … we could talk about that if you like.

But you can’t tell me what to do?

The reading is more about connecting you with your own wisdom.

So you can’t tell me if I should marry John or Joan, or Tom, Harry or Dick?

You mean can I answer the questions only you can answer …?

Yes.

Not so much.

Then why would I come to you?

Again …

‘To Cease Upon the Midnight …’ Keats

maj13
When the death card appears in a spread, the reader will often tell you that it’s not really about actual death. It’s about  transformation, or the close of a cycle or some other easier thing … and I agree with all that.

Still, death remains the great taboo. Not to be discussed at dinner parties. Sex was once. Neither prohibition makes sense to me. How is it smart to go fearful or ignorant to something which awaits all who live?

People die. You will. I will.

Walt Whitman put it brilliantly:

And to die is different from what anyone supposed, and luckier.

Who Said …

The Page of Swords is one who likes to question, to gather information. Here we continue an occasional ongoing conversation …

swords11‘We are such stuff as dreams are made on.’

Right.

Who said that?

Shakespeare.

The writer?

Actually it was one of the characters in a play he wrote. A bloke called, Prospero.

Ah … an astrologer?

Probably a bit. A magician in any case …

Rabbits, hats, making stuff disappear … that kind of thing?

Not so much.

What then?

More like integrating his own shadow.

How do you know?

‘Cos he said so.

Oh?

Speaking of Caliban, who plotted to murder him, ‘…this thing of darkness, I acknowledge mine.’

Is that magical?

Some of us think so.

At The Corner of East 5th & 1st Avenue …

cups03… there is a great bar which also serves food, and does a bargain special Sunday brunch. This cheerful hostelry is down in the East Village in New York City. It’s called The Three of Cups. How do I know?

Because when I first got to New York at the end of the 1990s, I lived in a sublet on East 5th with a 1970s rent. It was fantastic.

A celebratory drink with a couple of friends.

Why not?

A Hard Rain

thThere was once a king who commanded his ministers to formulate the summation of all wisdom. In due course the esteemed council returned to the royal presence.

‘Do not delay’, said the king, ‘to apprise me of the results of your labors.’

The chief minister stepped forward and said, ‘Even this shall pass away.’

There are those times. There just are. If you wait long enough it will change.

Get some Sun

maj19In an astrological chart the Sun is the foundation of character, destiny and possibility. The way that core identity is managed, modified, amplified and … all the rest of it, is as various as the history of costume.

Meanwhile here are a few fun Sun facts:

  1. The Sun accounts for more than 99% of the material mass in the entire solar system.
  2. When you look at the Sun you are looking about 8 minutes into the past.
  3. The Sun is orbiting the galactic centre (which means we are too).

Use the above to fill conversational dips at parties.

Get It Done

wands07Seven of Wands. A fiery card. Mars in Leo.

Push through. We haven’t got all day/week/year. You’ve got a life – work it.

Don’t get it right. Get it written!

Don’t make it good. Make it by tomorrow!

Better than an energy drink. You don’t see many soccer players (of either gender) sitting about delicately getting in touch with their passive/receptive.

If blocked by an opponent (inner or outer) deploy the seven of wands.

The ultimate don’t-fart-around card.

Still Waters …

cups01 (1)Water is adaptable. It flows. In the ocean it surges, responsive to the Moon.

Three water experiences known to me are:

The water at Glastonbury in England. It’s worth traveling for. The water in the Dead Sea is so buoyant, I have read a book while sitting in it. The rationed water from the Rio Grande grows garlic on a small-holding where I stayed once.

Water rocks.

I’ll Start Work Tomorrow

pents01 (1)Did you hear the one about the guy who rocks up in the big city? He’s all excited because he’s heard the streets are paved with gold.

Sure enough, right after he gets off the bus he sees a bright, shinny, gold coin, glistening up at him from the sidewalk.

He stoops to pick it up, but then thinks, ‘Why not take a day off today?’ And he leaves the money where it is.

Uh-oh.

Did you miss any coins today? This one is jammed-packed, stuffed-full, promise-crammed … it is pure potential.

All you gotta do is pick it up!
